Man found dead, wife’s ex-hubby under lens

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 30-year-old private firm employee, whose body was found near the Belgharia CCR Railway Bridge, around 2.5 kilometres from his Baranagar house, early on Sunday. There were injury marks all over his body.Family members of the victim, Tapas Saha, lodged a murder complaint at Baranagar PS against his neighbour Shibaprasad Das alias Shibu. A couple of months ago, Saha had married Shibu’s ex-wife and Shibu had threatened the couple with dire consequences. He has gone into hiding and the cops are looking for him.Local residents said they saw Shibu and his aides dragging Saha towards CCR Bridge on Saturday night.“We are looking into that angle,” said a senior officer of the Barrackpore commissionerate.Saha’s death sparked tension in the area on Sunday. Local people launched an agitation, demanding arrest of the culprits. A large contingent of police, including RAF and combat force, rushed to the spot.According to a local resident, “A few months ago, when Shibu came to know about the affair between Saha and his wife, he threatened them. But the duo continued with their relationship, and later, the woman divorced Shibu and started living separately. Soon after, Saha married her.”Laxmi Saha, the victim’s mother, said: “Shibu and his associates came to our house several times and threatened my son. I had told my son to leave her, but he didn’t pay heed.”Saha’s wife said, “Shibu and his associates caught him after he got down from train at Belgharia station on his way home. Then they started beating him up. My husband called me, saying he was being beaten up by Shibu and his men. But his phone got disconnected and was then switched off. I immediately informed our neighbours and police, but couldn’t save him.”The railway police also initiated a case as the body was found near the tracks.
