KOLKATA: Ten people had a lucky escape after being trapped in a fire that broke out in a four-storey apartment at
Kasba Bosepukur
around 12.30pm on Wednesday.
Quick thinking by those trapped and intervention from locals saved seven employees of a firm dealing in electrical equipment in half-an-hour. The fire is believed to have started from a short circuit when the AC connection was switched on in this office on the first floor. Three others – a man and and two women – employed at a beauty parlour on the second floor, had to rush to the terrace of the building from where they were rescued by firemen after an hour.
Three fire tenders brought the fire under control. “We returned at 3.45pm after the cooling process was over. The office where the fire originated suffered extensive damage,” said a fire department official, adding the cause of fire can be ascertained only after a detailed probe. He said that with the affected building located close to a petrol pump and
Kasba Police Station
, the fire department’s first job was to stop the spread of the fire. “We even broke the glass windows of the ground floor electrical goods showroom to allow the smoke to come out,” said the officer.
