Kolkata metro’s new era
The addition of three corridors — Green, Yellow and Orange — promises faster, cleaner commutes, directly connecting rail hubs, the airport, and major city hotspots.
Green line: Sealdah–Esplanade
A 2.45 km underground link that slashes a 50-minute road trip to just 11 minutes, giving the city its first seamless metro link between Sealdah and Howrah.
Yellow line: Noapara–Jai Hind airport
Spanning 6.77 km, it brings Kolkata its first direct airport metro, cutting Esplanade–airport travel to 30 minutes with three stations en route.
Orange line: Ruby–Beleghata
This 4.4 km stretch enhances east–south connectivity, linking Science City, schools, hospitals, and commercial hubs, easing congestion on busy routes
Smarter commute, bigger capacity
With 366 new services, smart card integration, lifts, and wider concourses, capacity rises to 9.15 lakh daily, transforming the 41-year-old metro system.
