Kol suffers another scorcher but Met spies rain relief on Sunday

Kolkata: The city endured another scorcher on Friday when the maximum temperature touched 36°C. However, the Met office has predicted relief in two days. An upper air circulation over east Uttar Pradesh could finally break the warm spell and trigger thundershowers in south Bengal and Kolkata between Sunday and Tuesday. Districts across south Bengal, as well as the western districts of Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram and East and West Burdwan, could receive thunderstorms during the period.A bulletin issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre said: "A trough runs from east Uttar Pradesh to South Bangladesh across Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal at 0.9 km above mean sea level. The upper air cyclonic circulation over east Uttar Pradesh and its neighbourhood merged with the above trough. In view of favourable wind pattern and strong moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal, thunderstorm and associated activities are very likely to increase over Bengal from April 25."Chances of thunderstorm in Kolkata and its surroundings are higher between Sunday and Tuesday, said RMC weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay. "It may be preceded by sporadic rain on Saturday. But the possibility of more intense thunderstorms is higher in the next three days. Light-moderate rain and thundershowers are likely on Sunday in East and West Burdwan, Murshidabad, Nadia and North 24 Parganas. Thunderstorm, lightning and gusty wind reaching 40-50 kmph are likely at these places on Sunday. The impact may be felt in the city," he said. Districts in the south and west are likely to be lashed by severe thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds over the subsequent two days, the bulletin said.Most parts of south Bengal will be warm and humid on Saturday.
