KOLKATA: “Give me some peace,” 67-year-old Minati Mukherjee, Arpita Mukherjee’s mother, told ED officers on Wednesday, refusing to let them enter her home in Belgharia’s Dewanpara.
“I’m exhausted and can’t take it any more. Please give me some peace. I’m stunned after watching the news on TV channels about my daughter. After the death of my husband, a central government employee, Arpita was offered the job but she refused.

She was doing some modelling and acting roles. She worked in Odiya films and had her own production house. The officers on Wednesday searched all the rooms, scattered everything, but did not find anything of import in more than a couple of hours,“ Minati said.
Arpita used to visit her mother at the ancestral home twice a week.

ED officers faced resistance on Wednesday when they tried to enter Minati’s house where she lives alone. Around 11.30am, ED officers in three SUVs reached Arpita’s house, where the elderly Minati stopped them and the central forces. She sat down at the staircase of the old and dilapidated two-storey building off Abdul Latif Street at ward no 22 of Kamarhati municipality and had to be almost forcibly shifted before officers could enter.

According to sources, after the death of Minati’s husband nearly seven years ago, she and her two daughters used to stay in the Dewanpara house. “Her elder daughter got married and younger daughter Arpita started living elsewhere when she went into modelling,” a neighbour said.
Even as ED officers tried to conivnce her to move from the stairs on Wednesday, she didn’t budge. “A heated argument was exchanged between the elderly widow and the ED officers. Women personnel of central forces had to remove her from the staircase almost forcibly after which the ED officers entered the house,” a local woman said.
According to ED sources, a five-member team conducted a search operation in all the six rooms and spoke to Minati about her daughter.
