KOLKATA : In a last ditch attempt to keep the proposed regional hub of the National Security Guards in Bengal after failing to provide land for the same at Rajarhat, the government has now decided to showcase 600 acres at Singur.
"The state government will show them (Union home ministry officials) around 600 acres at Singur," said chief secretary Samar Ghosh at Writers' Buildings on Monday.
The development comes on the heels of a home ministry report documenting the state government's failure in providing land at Rajarhat for the elite NSG hub. The ministry is said to have suggested shifting the same to neighbouring states of Assam or Orissa. The report was circulated to all chief ministers who had attended a meeting called by the Centre but skipped by chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
The state had quoted steep price of land at the upcoming township as reason behind its failure to acquire the plot.
