Cop recruitment hearing adjourned till June 8

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of petitions alleging irregularities in the West Bengal Police constable recruitment process for 2024 till June 8, as the state counsels failed to appear, reports Srishti Lakhotia.Justice Amrita Sinha clarified that any appointment made in the interim would be subject to the final outcome of the writ petitions. Hearing two separate petitions, the court noted allegations that horizontal reservation protocols were flouted and posts reserved for the exempted category (EC) were illegally dereserved and opened to unreserved candidates.The petitioners sought a restraint order on filling up the vacant posts. They also pointed out that while the recruitment process concluded, appointment letters were withheld due to MCC. They voiced apprehensions that state might immediately issue letters to candidates.
