Malda: A
CISF jawan was arrested for
molestation by Malda Government Railway Police following complaints from co-passengers aboard the Dn Guwahati-Howrah Saraighat Express on Wednesday night.
The jawan, Joy Singh from Burdwan who was posted in Assam, was returning home on leave with his friend, Chhoton Pramanik. They were sharing a reserved compartment with a family from Howrah, who boarded the train at New Jalpaiguri Station.
Singh and Pramanik were allegedly drinking liquor openly and soon started misbehaving with the woman and her 15-year-old daughter. When the woman’s husband and others tried to intervene, the duo threatened them with dire consequences.
“He (Singh) claimed he was armed and threatened the passengers,” said the woman. “I was really scared, especially for my daughter.” Co-passengers informed the TTE. Malda GRP was informed, and when the train reached Malda Town station at 11pm, the jawan and his friend were detained. They were reportedly in a drunken state and abused the cops as well.
Bhaskar Pradhan, inspector in charge GRP of Malda, said: “On the basis of the complaint from the TTE, we have arrested the duo on the charge of molestation.” Police recovered liquor bottles from their seats. Singh and Pramanik were taken to court on Thursday.
