Chandan sen murder case accused surrenders

KOLKATA: Dr R Alam, a prime accused in the Chandan Sen murder case, surrendered at Ranaghat subdivisional court on Wednesday, according to additional director-general of the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) R K Mohanty.

He had been absconding after the murder of Sen. ChandanSen, a popular surgeon of the Ranaghat Sub-divisional Hospital, was found deadin a pond near the house of a hospital cleark on the night of February 26. Themurder created a public furore. It was alleged that Sen was murdered because asection of corrupt doctors and health staff saw him as a potentialthreat.Alam was Sen’s colleague. According to the CID, he wasinvolved in planning, organisation and execution of the conspiracy against Sen.Earlier, the CID had interrogated a woman who had met Dr Alam after the murderof Chandan Sen.Two months ago, the CID had submitted a chargesheetagainst Sunil Ganguly and his son Goutam Ganguly, Dr Shubharanjan Khanra and hiswife Arundhati, Dr Alam and his driver Abbas and family welfare officer ApurbaSanyal. Alam was named as an absconder in the chargesheet. They were chargedwith murder, concealment of evidence and criminal conspiracy under Sections 302,201 and 120 B of the Indian Penal Code. The chargesheet was drawn upon the basis of the post-mortem report and strong circumstantialevidences.
