Certs before birth, sibling age diff a month: ‘Super-checking’ throws up anomalies

Kolkata: Observers identified several anomalies, such as siblings' age differences of less than 1 month and birth certificates issued before the date of birth, among others, while super-checking the uploaded data and documents of the electors in the ongoing Bengal SIR exercise. The EC instructed the concerned DEOs and EROs to investigate every such anomaly, a senior EC official said.Observers also identified that the Mohanpur GP office under Magrahat-II block in South 24 Parganas issued a blood relation certificate to a person, Atiyar Munsi, which he submitted as an SIR document.
In part 55 of the Metiabruz Assembly constituency, 10 electors mentioned Abdul Hai as their father in enumeration forms. According to the Commission's guidelines for the Bengal SIR, this is a case of logical discrepancy as the progeny mapping is more than 6, the official said."Upon analysing the forms, observers noticed a 27-day age difference between 2 kids, both having the same biological parents, Abdul Hai and Monowara Bibi. Hai's name appears in the 2002 list at serial number 521 in part number 53. The form states that his third child, Sheikh Irshad, was born on Dec 5, 1990, and the fourth child, Sheikh Naushad, on Jan 1, 1991. The DEO and ERO were asked to investigate the matter," he added.During the super-checking of the enumeration forms of 10 siblings, the observers also identified that the birth date of 5 of them is Jan 1, which they said was quite unusual.The birth certificate of a person was issued 2 days before his birth in North 24 Parganas's Baranagar. This came to the notice of the EC during the super-checking of uploaded documents of a voter, Papil Sarkar. He submitted his birth certificate as a document during the hearing. According to it, he was born on March 6, 1993, but his birth certificate was registered 2 days ahead of his birth, on March 4, 1993, another official said.
