CBSE class 10 results out, schools say only a few may take ‘improvement’ tests
Kolkata: The CBSE announced the class 10 board results on Wednesday with an overall pass percentage of 93.7, an increase of 0.04 percentage points from the previous year's 93.66%. Though students have another chance to reappear for the exams to improve their scores, most school principals felt very few would avail of the option as a majority of students did quite well this time. The CBSE introduced this option of an ‘improvement round' from this year, under which students can reappear for the exam in maximum three papers to better their scores. In Bengal, 43,867 candidates registered for CBSE class 10, 43,612 took the tests and 41,938 passed. The 1,674 students who could not clear the tests can take the second exams.According to the latest updates from city schools, Anisha Ghosh from Bhavan's Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir and Jayshirshya Basu from BDM International School secured a perfect score of 500 out of 500. Of the 732 candidates at South Point, 382 scored above 90%. At DPS Ruby Park, 329 secured 90% and above out of 467 candidates. At Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, 138 students took the exam and 89 scored above 90%. A total of 356 students appeared from GD Goenka School, Dakshineswar, and 74 scored above 95%. At Sushila Birla Girls' School, 117 students appeared for the exam and 85 of them scored above 90%. At DPS Howrah, 128 students appeared for the exam and 73 scored above 90%.Principals said students, who had earlier indicated their wish to appear for the second test, might withdraw their names after their scores turned out to be better than expected. GD Goenka School principal Vijay Lakshmi Kumar said 13 of their students scored full marks in maths, seven in AI and 12 in social science. Sri Shikshayatan School principal Sangeeta Tandon said, "Around 50 students had applied for the second round. But given that many of them scored 99 or 100 in the first round, a large number may withdraw their names." DPS Howrah principal Sunita Arora said, "Three students gave their names for the second round. All three have scored 80% and above. I doubt they will reappear now." DPS Ruby Park principal Joyoti Chaudhuri said, "The introduction of the second exam is a transformative step by the board. Strong board results reduce stress and the second exam option is a safety net."
