Burrabazar cop poses as thief's wife, retrieves loot

KOLKATA: A call by a Burrabazar woman constable pretending to be a suspect's wife on Wednesday helped police crack a Rs 4 lakh theft case.
The suspect, Abani Mondal, a Chanditola resident, had stolen the money from the cash vault of his employer, Pushpendu Kumar Chowdhury, a plastic trader.
The complaint was lodged on Monday. While police suspect Mondal for his incoherent statements, they did not have much leads to pursue.
On Wednesday, however, a call by the lady constable to Abani asking him did he tell police that he stole the money, prompted the suspect to confess. Abani had hid the money in the washroom. The entire booty has been recovered.
