BSF seizes snake venom worth Rs 6crore

Malda: Around two pounds of

snake venom

, worth Rs 6 crore, was seized at the India-Bangladesh border on Sunday. BSF jawans at Bhimpur border outpost came by three youths trying to enter India.

On being chased, the men fled into

Bangladesh

. Jawans found a bag containing jars labelled ‘Made in France’ while searching the area.

Commandant B S Negi of battalion No. 199 claimed the bulletproof jars contained a brown liquid, which was handed over to the forest department where officials confirmed it to be snake venom.

forest, said that the bottles will be sent to a forensic laboratory in Mumbai if the court permits.
