Kolkata: The district administration in Godda, Jharkhand, reached out to Madan Besra, who refused to accept his lost mother until she converted to Hinduism. The son, the district administration said, is ready to accept his mother, Sushila Murmu, without a condition and will leave for Kolkata on Thursday. On Wednesday, Mahavir Pandit, the officer-in-charge at Poriahat PS, reached Besra's residence and spoke to him. "I met him and asked him to accept his mother without any condition. Such incidents are unacceptable to us. He will get on a train to Kolkata on Thursday," Pandit said on a call.
Besra, who sells spices at a local wholesale market, learnt about his lost mother a few days back when members of the Amateur Radio operators contacted him. "While he was surprised to learn about his mother, he started looking for excuses when we mentioned her return. Initially, he said that he was busy. Later, when we made him talk to his mother, Besra clearly placed the condition of changing her religion," said Ambarish Nag Biswas of West Bengal Radio Club.Sushila Murmu, who converted to Christianity before she got married, left her village, Dahupagar, after her husband died. Murmu was first spotted in Kolkata by a member of the Missionaries of Charity, who took her to a shelter home. The woman resided at a south Kolkata home since 2001. The mukhiya of the Liladha panchayat, Vikesh Kumar, said, "We told him that he cannot say no to his mother. However, we will keep an eye on him after she returns. We will ensure she does not face any more neglect now."
