KOLKATA: Vegetable, fruits and flowers from Bengal will soon head to one of the most prestigious wholesale malls in London. West Bengal Agri Horti Exporters’ Association is now planning to open an outlet along with a cold storage at the Western International Market at South Hall. Next on line are Baluchari silk and honey from the Sunderbans. Indian fruits and vegetable have a big market in the east European countries and in London.
Earlier, exporters used to send these produce to these countries individually. Now, they have come together to tap the market and reap the profits collectively.
There is a big demand for sweet karela, long beans, peer gourd and several other leafy vegetables among the Asian communities in these countries. “There is a great demand for leafy vegetables like pui shaak, notey shaak, lal shaak, kalmi shaak and palang shaak. Even parble and brinjal will find a large number of takers in the foreign markets,” said Arup Dutta, spokesperson of the association.
