Arrested RG Kar principal Sandip’s para waits for ‘payloader action’ on his house
Kolkata: Neighbours of Sandip Ghosh, former RG Kar principal, await a payloader to arrive at Beleghata's Badan Roy Lane and pull down "unauthorised constructions" at his house, Balaji Nivas. Ghosh is now in judicial custody following his arrest on charges related to the "larger conspiracy" behind the rape and murder of the junior PGT doctor as well as financial irregularities. The KMC has ordered demolition of a small portion of a pergola atop the roof, an iron spiral staircase installed over the roof to access the lift's machine room and a brick wall built in place of a door on the second floor at Ghosh's house, located at 83, Badan Roy Lane. According to civic officials, these constructions were made after tinkering with the original building plan. Even though the civic body served a notice on the address about a couple of years ago, no step was taken. Now the KMC has ordered that the portions flouting the building plan will have to be razed in 45 days. "Ghosh's family living at the house has been asked to cite reasons for the illegal constructions. We will wait for some time to get their response. If they don't raze the unauthorised structures on their own, we will pull it down. The response has to come in a week. If the respondent applies for a special hearing, an officer will hear the matter. Depending on the gravity of the matter, the special hearing officer will decide whether the constructions will be regularised or razed," said a KMC buildings department official. At a time when a payloader drive is being carried out in different parts of the city to pull down illegal structures, residents of the Beleghata area, who have been vocal against Ghosh after the RG Kar crime, want a similar demolition action on the property. The topic for discussion in the neighbourhood on Friday was found revolving around irregularities at Ghosh's property. "He misused his power to indulge in illegal constructions. We want a payloader action against him. Even we protested against his extension of the wall, usurping a manhole," said a resident of the area. Arati Shau, a resident, said, "Though the notice was served about the illegal constructions two years ago, they stayed unmoved. He should face action." Surajit Sarkar, another resident, said: "He should pay for what he has done."
