Kolkata: The officiating vice-chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, placed the varsity registrar Subir Maitra under suspension on Monday, following a Calcutta High Court order.
“The court has directed to comply the order today and we have followed the order,” said Mukherjee.
TOI tried to reach out to the Maitra but he did not respond.
Sources said Asish Samanta, who is dean of students’ welfare board, has been given additional charge of the registrar.
According to sources, the high court was hearing a September 2023 case related to accompanist teachers of the university.
The sources said that the high court had passed certain orders and had asked Rabindra Bharati University for compliance.
When the matter came up for hearing on Monday, the court was told that the Rabindra Bharati registrar had not acted according to the HC’s directions. The court then ordered his suspension.
A formal copy of the order was not available on the Calcutta High Court website till Monday evening.
