A R Rahman is Sikkim’s tourism face

Gangtok: Music maestro A R Rahman has been named as the brand ambassador for Sikkim tourism.

Sikkim tourism minister Ugen T Gyatso Bhutia said on Monday that the Oscar winning composer will inaugurate the Red Panda Winter Carnival on January 8 at Paljor Stadium here, where chief minister Pawan Chamling will declare the ‘Mozart of Madras’ as the brand ambassador for Sikkim tourism, Bhutia added.

“We had approached the music maestro who agreed to be the brand ambassador for Sikkim tourism. He will be gracing the inaugural function of the upcoming Red Panda Winter Carnival on January 8. We have also reached an understanding with his team to organize a concert here which will be graced by Rahman and his 50-member crew sometime in February-March next year,” added the minister.

Also, Sikkimese Nepali film ‘Pahuna — The Little Visitors’ produced by actor Priyanka Chopra will also be premiered here in her presence. Similarly, the tourism department is making attempts at inviting noted singers like Papon, Jonita Gandhi and others for the carnival. Local bands such as ‘Still Waters’ and ‘Girish and the Chronicles’ as well as the ‘Shillong Chamber Choir’ are also set to perform.
