2002 KP martyr’s son caught in Delhi cybercrime case

Kolkata: Sankha Subhra Sen (23), the younger son of Bapi Sen, the sergeant who gave up his life trying to save a girl from being harassed on New Year's Eve night in 2002, was arrested by the Delhi Police on Sunday morning for his alleged link with a cybercrime that took place in the national capital last month. However, a local Alipore court granted him bail later in the day and stated that he has to cooperate with Delhi Police and appear in a Delhi court on a specific date. Traffic sergeant Bapi Sen (32), posted with the Tollygunge traffic guard, was assaulted on the tram tracks near Hind Cinema at Wellington on Dec 31, 2002, after he allegedly protested against lewd comments passed at a young woman riding pillion on bike by five reserve force constables of Kolkata Police.
Sen, who travelled in a taxi with four friends, suffered severe injuries, slipped into a coma and died 5 days later. He was survived by his wife and 2 sons.Sankha Subhra was questioned at the Parnasree PS throughout Saturday late evening and night, but he failed to answer several questions clearly, leading to his arrest, Kolkata Police claimed. CCTV footage showing him withdrawing money from one of the accounts where the investment fraud money was parked went against him, sources claimed. "Sankha Subhra, son of Sergeant Bapi Sen, was arrested by Delhi Police's Cyber PS in Case No. 54/2025 under Section 318(4) BNS. He was produced at a local court on Sunday, where his transit remand was granted," said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.A Sen family acquaintance claimed "non-cooperation" from Parnasree PS, despite his mother, Soma Sen, being employed with Kolkata Police. He also claimed that the young man "might have committed the crime without much knowledge"."I know he withdrew money from the bank. After that, the Delhi Police came and arrested him. I asked the police if money was deposited into his account, but they said no money was deposited. But he was seen withdrawing money in the footage. It might be that someone tempted him with money to make the withdrawal. But he is not involved in cybercrime. He has no past record. He also named the person who asked him to withdraw the money," said a family acquaintance.The well-wisher added, "The Delhi Police said the Parnasree PS did not cooperate, so they had to arrest him for probe." According to Delhi Police sources, a series of cyber fraud incidents occurred across Delhi and N India. Recently, during the probe of a related case, its cybercrime unit found the involvement of Sankha Subhra. A Delhi Police team raided his Behala home on Saturday night.
