Minister Mushrif inaugurates advanced healthcare facilities at CPR Hospital in Kolhapur
Kolhapur: Medical education minister Hasan Mushrif on Friday said the redevelopment of Chhatrapati Pramilaraje Sarvopchar Rugnalaya, also known as CPR Hospital, would significantly strengthen healthcare services for people across western Maharashtra, with the hospital building, originally built in 1985, has undergone major transformation to better serve patients and medical students.
Among the facilities inaugurated on Friday were a pulmonary laboratory attached to the respiratory intensive care unit, equipped with 10 beds, ventilators and multi-parameter monitors for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory illnesses. A 40-bed medical ICU with advanced life-support systems has also been made operational, along with a 16-bed surgical ICU designed to treat critically injured accident victims.
The hospital has also introduced a modern physiotherapy laboratory featuring a robotic arm and a robotic gait training system, along with equipment for physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Other new facilities include a pharmacogenomics laboratory and a state-of-the-art ear, nose and throat (ENT) department.
“The hospital has long been a backbone of healthcare for the common people in western Maharashtra. With the inauguration of new facilities, patients will receive advanced treatment within the district itself, and underprivileged medical students will gain access to quality education,” Mushrif said, while speaking at the inauguration of state-of-the-art medical services and facilities worth about Rs 250 crore at CPR Hospital.
A detailed inspection of the newly developed amenities was conducted during the programme. Officials expressed confidence that the upgraded infrastructure would make modern and high-quality medical care accessible to patients from Kolhapur and the wider western Maharashtra region. “Once the new facilities are fully developed, patients will no longer need to travel outside Kolhapur for treatment,” Mushrif said, while announcing that the next phase of development works at CPR Hospital will be inaugurated next month by CM Devendra Fadnavis, in the presence of deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar.
The event was presided over by state planning commission head and MLA Rajesh Kshirsagar, and attended by Kolhapur mayor Rouparani Nikam, district collector Vijay Rathod, Kolhapur Municipal Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bharud, Zilla Parishad CEO Dr Jasmine and CPR Dean Dr Sadanand Bhise, among others.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Rajesh Kshirsagar described Mushrif as a “health ambassador” and credited him with securing nearly Rs 2,000 crore in funds for strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the district.
