Nagaland DGP reflects on sacrifices made by martyrs

Kohima: Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma on Saturday called upon the forces to reflect on the sacrifices made by police personnel and be inspired by the brave martyrs. Sharma said, “As we reflect on the sacrifices and valour of our police force, let us be inspired by our brave martyrs and pledge to continue their mission.” In all, 189 personnel of different forces laid down their lives in the line of duty during September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2023. Among these brave souls were two Nagaland policemen Lance Naik T Zewangba Yim of 3rd NAP and constable Kevisekho Khate of 10 NAP (IR).Maintaining that a modern policeman’s role goes beyond just ensuring physical security of fellow citizens, the DGP, while speaking on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day at the police headquarters here, said it also involves making people safe from threats and fear in society.PTI

Three police personnel from TN died in line of duty in last one year, says DGP

Three police personnel from Tamil Nadu were among the 188 police and paramilitary personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty across India in a year. The Director General of Police, Shankar Jiwal, paid homage to the fallen officers during the Police Commemoration Day parade in Chennai. He also laid a wreath at the martyr's memorial and expressed gratitude to the officers' families. The day commemorates the sacrifice of 10 Central Reserve Police Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Force personnel in an ambush by the Chinese army in 1959.

1 nation, 1 sacrifice: Punjab to give martyr status to Agniveer

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has criticized the Agnipath scheme, which recruits soldiers for a four-year tenure, calling for it to be reviewed or shelved. He questioned why soldiers should be treated as "contractual" and highlighted the case of Agniveer Amritpal Singh, who was denied military honours at his funeral. The Army has denied any discrimination and stated that the policy guided Singh's treatment. Mann handed over a cheque of Rs 1 crore to Singh's family and promised to build a stadium in his name. He plans to raise the issue with the defence and Union home ministers after the assembly session.

Bereaved families of police martyrs receive pension and Rs 1.3 crore financial support: Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor

Haryana Director General of Police (DGP), Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, expressed the state government's commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families. He emphasized that families of martyred employees are provided with job security, a pension, and financial assistance of Rs 1 crore 30 lakh. Contract-based employees' families receive Rs 50 lakh in case of accidental fatalities. Kapoor paid homage to the police martyrs on Police Martyrdom Day and praised the leadership of chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and home minister Anil Vij.
