Kochi: Ernakulam rural police arrested two persons with 20kg of ganja, approximately worth Rs 2 lakh, at Mulanthuruthy. Arrested persons are Noor Islam (19) and Rabuyil Sheikh (22), both from Bamnabad in West Bengal. The arrests took place near Cherukara, where statutory surveillance team-5 was conducting checks related to the upcoming election.
According to police, the team came upon two large bags abandoned near the road and alerted Mulanthuruthy police. The police personnel then identified the substance as ganja. Subsequently, a detailed investigation was launched to find the culprits.
Upon receiving a tip-off that the suspects were nearby, police began a search. Local ward member Adarsh Sajikumar, along with residents Pramod, Jayaraj, P K Babu, Siju, and Gopalakrishnan, assisted the police in locating the accused, who were subsequently arrested.
The accused admitted to hiding the ganja after seeing the surveillance team. The investigation team was led by inspector Sangeeth Punathil and included sub-inspectors Princi R and Praveenkumar S. Police said that the accused brought ganja from West Bengal by train with the intent to sell it in Mulanthuruthy area.
Six booked for scuffle: City police arrested six men for allegedly engaging in a scuffle in a parked car in Kadavanthara. Police said that the accused were all friends and were on a leisure trip. A drunken argument led to the scuffle within the group. A police patrol team received information about it and took them into custody. They were booked and later released on bail.
