ALAPPUZHA: The potholed National Highway claimed two lives at Haripad in Alappuzha on Wednesday night. The two youths were killed when their motorcycle collided with a car while they were skipping a pothole on the NH.
The police said that the deceased have been identified as Prasanth, 29, son of Podiyan, Metharayil, Evoor South, Cheppad and his friend Abhilash, 34, son of Kochu Nanu, Pallathutharayil, Cheppad.
The
accident happened near Kanjooor Devi temple. They were heading towards Haripad from the Kayamkulam side. The Xylo car was heading from Haripad side to Kayamkulam. The youths, on seeing the pothole on the NH, suddenly diverted the direction of the two-wheeler, leading to the accident. The bike is owned by the brother-in-law of Prasanth.
"The Xylo car owned by a youth of Kayamkulam has been taken into custody. We suspect it was Prasanth, who rode the bike,’’ the sub-inspector M Sudhi Lal told TOI.
"They fell down on the road owing to the impact of the collision. They were rushed to Haripad Government Hospital, but their life could not be saved. They suffered fatal head injuries. None of them was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Abhilash was working as JCB operator and Prasanth was a gulf returnee.
“Abhilash is a bachelor and is survived by his mother Mani. Prasanth is survived by his wife Chippy and mother Maniyamma. Their bodies were shifted to the morgue of Haripad Hospital,'' said the sub-inspector.
