Kochi: Ernakulam rural police on Friday arrested two men with 5kg of ganja from Chembarakky in Perumbavoor. The arrested persons were identified as Rabin Mandal, 24, and Ashis Sarkar, 32, natives of Murshidabad, West Bengal. They were apprehended by a special investigation team led by the Perumbavoor ASP and Thadiyittaparambu police. The operation was based on a tip-off received by district police chief M Hemalatha.According to police, Sarkar and Mandal, who reside in Aluva NAD area, were taken into custody while delivering cannabis on a scooter. Mandal, known as Robin Bhai, was previously arrested in March with cannabis from Perumbavoor Bengal Colony. He was released from jail a month ago but was kept under surveillance. His customers included local youths and interstate workers.Clash over football match: Muvattupuzha police have launched an investigation after two groups clashed over a football match on Wednesday night. The video of the clash has been widely circulated. According to police, some youngsters who agreed to participate in the match failed to turn up.
This led to an argument and subsequent clash. Sources said that the clash occurred after family members of the youngsters got involved. The body was found floating in the water around 7.45am by passersby. The body was shifted to the general hospital. Ernakulam Central Police registered a case and launched an investigation to confirm the identity of the victim.Man dies: A 68-year-old security guard of a restaurant died after the gate of the compound wall collapsed on him at Aluva Bypass Junction in the early hours of Friday. The deceased was identified as Jagannadhan, a native of Kongorppilly. The gate collapsed around 1.50am while Jagannadhan was on duty. Other staff members rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Aluva Police registered a case of unnatural death. The body was handed over to the kin after an autopsy.
