By: Litha AchariINDORE: The Ratlam district administration on Thursday awarded compulsory retirement as punishment to a government assistant teacher who cut the braid of a Class 5 girl student while intoxicated during school hours.
The incident occurred nearly 10 months ago, on September 4, 2024, at Government Primary School No. 2 in Semal Khedi, located about 40 km from Ratlam city.
Assistant teacher Veer Singh Medha allegedly cut the braid of a student in an inebriated state during class.
A video of the act, in which teacher Veer Singh Medha is seen holding scissors and telling the bystander “Do whatever you want,” went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.

Veer Singh Maida, assistant teacher at Primary School No. 2 Semal Khedi under Government High School Nayan, cut the braid of Class 5 student while in an intoxicated state. He was immediately suspended. An FIR was filed after the suspension. Following a departmental enquiry, Veer Singh Medha has been punished with the major penalty of compulsory retirement by Collector Rajesh Batham on July 10, 2025," read a Govt. press release from Ratlam.
An FIR was lodged on Sept 5,2024 and a departmental enquiry was ordered under the Tribal Welfare Department, which oversees the school. Statements were recorded from the victim and other students. Following confirmation of the charges, the administration on Thursday imposed a major penalty of compulsory retirement on Medha.
Officials from the Tribal Welfare Department, including Assistant Commissioner Ranjana Singh, had visited the school and submitted a detailed investigation report.
The school, located around 40 km from Ratlam city, serves tribal children from nearby areas and currently has over 60 students enrolled.
