Idukki: A tribal youth, who climbed down a dangerous cliff near the Perumbankuthu waterfall at Mankulam near Adimali, was rescued in a daring effort by his friend and a group of jeep drivers. The incident occurred on Monday evening.
The youth, identified as Sanal Sasi, a resident of Kurathikudi tribal colony in Mankulam panchayat, had descended to a hazardous spot atop the waterfall, which has a drop of nearly 500 feet. He reportedly stated that he intended to end his life. He had reached the spot along with his friend Vinagar.
Despite repeated attempts by his friend to call him back, Sanal refused to return. Eventually, his friend Vinagar himself climbed down the risky ledge in an attempt to rescue him. At that time, jeep drivers from Mankulam — Bibin, Ebin and Alex — who happened to arrive at the spot, joined the rescue effort.
Together, they managed to pull Sanal back to safety. During the rescue, Sanal reportedly attempted to move towards the edge, making the situation more critical.
