THRISSUR: In a refreshing initiative,

Thrissur

corporation has named a newly-started park after slain journalist Gauri Lankesh. The park at Kacheri in

Nadathara

division was inaugurated by agriculture minister V S Sunilkumar on Friday. The formal announcement that it would be known as 'Gauri Lankesh Park' was made by Thrissur Press Club president K Prabhat.

Nadathara division councilor Sheeba Babu said that the park was meant for 285-odd families staying in the housing colony built on

surplus land on the banks of Peechi irrigation canal at Kacheri. "People there have been facing several deprivations, including a common space to spend leisure time. The women had shown remarkable resilience in fighting several adverse conditions,'' Babu said.
