SSUS issues revised circular on governor’s visit
Kochi: Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) withdrew its controversial circular issued on Saturday in connection with governor Rajendra Arlekar's visit for Sankara Jayanthi celebrations at the campus on Tuesday.University released a revised version on Sunday following directions from the governor's office. "Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit withdrew the circular issued in connection with the governor's visit. A revised circular was issued by the university, incorporating and strictly following the instructions provided by the governor's office," read a statement issued by the university on Sunday. The revised circular asks attendees to keep their mobile phones on silent mode before the governor arrives at the hall. It also states that no one will be permitted to leave the venue until the programme concludes. The earlier circular, issued by the assistant registrar on behalf of the registrar, laid down a series of instructions for participants, including maintaining discipline, wearing ID cards, adhering to behavioural norms such as standing up to receive the governor when he enters the venue and applauding his speech. The circular sparked protests from SFI, whose members burned copies of the document on campus.
