Kochi:
India meteorological department (IMD) issued heavy rainfall and thunderstorm warnings for the state until Sunday.
A yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Thursday, while Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Wayanad are on alert on Friday. An isolated heavy rainfall warning for 7-11cm has been issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Wayanad on Saturday, while Kozhikode is on alert on Sunday.
The low-pressure area over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Tamil Nadu and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts became less marked. However, the associated upper air cyclonic circulation now lies over southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamil Nadu and extends up to 0.9km above mean sea level. The upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Kerala coast now lies over southeast Arabian Sea off the Kerala coast between 1.5 and 3.1km above mean sea level.
Minimum temperatures were above normal in Kannur, Malappuram, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Kollam and Thrissur districts in 24 hours recorded on Wednesday. Kannur airport recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 24.3C.
