Kochi: When cardiac surgeon Dr Joe Joseph called up Dinoy Thomas of Kalamassery for taking part in the fun run as part of the Spice Coast Marathon last Sunday, he hadn’t thought it would earn him an accolade from batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. On Wednesday, Tendulkar tweeted about Thomas who ran five kilometres in the marathon.
It was Tendulkar who flagged off the marathon at Marine Drive at 3.30am on Sunday. “When mind follows heart, beautiful things happen. Dinoy Thomas had a change of heart a few years back, literally, with a heart transplant. Today, he is on a fitness journey, guided by his doctor and even ran 5km run. Meeting such people is very inspiring. My best wishes,” Tendulkar tweeted.
It was on September 20, 2013, that Thomas underwent heart surgery. “I am very happy that a great personality like Tendulkar tweeted about me. It’s an unforgettable moment in my life. I wasn’t aware that Tendulkar would flag off the marathon. When I reached there, Dr Joseph who did my surgery said Tendulkar is around. Dr Jose Chacko Periyappuram introduced me to the Indian cricket icon,” Thomas said.
