Retired SI killed in bus accident near Goshree bridge

Kochi: A retired sub-inspector was killed in an accident near the second Goshree bridge on Tuesday evening. The deceased was Unnikrishnan K V, 57, from Panambukad. He was on a two-wheeler when the accident occurred. A bus going in the same direction hit him, and he fell and was run over by the bus.The accident occurred around 3.45pm at Bolgatty junction. The retired officer, who used to work in police stations in Kochi, was returning home after working on some pending cases he was investigating earlier. According to police, the bus was carrying pilgrims from Kasaragod and Kannur who were heading to Vallarpadam pilgrim centre after a visit to Kreupasanam. The front of the bus grazed against the victim's two-wheeler, and he fell under the bus. He was run over by the back tyres and died on the spot. Mulavukadu police conducted inquest proceedings and moved the body to Ernakulam general hospital for postmortem procedures. Police registered a case and began an investigation. They said that the body would be handed over to the family after postmortem on Wednesday.
