KOCHI: A 40-year-old man was awarded a total jail term of 60 years and Rs 60,000 fine after Perumbavoor fast track court found him guilty of sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl, Ernakulam Rural police said in a statement on Thursday.

The case pertains to the incident in July 2021. The chargesheet was filed by the then Kuruppampady inspector Rajesh K Menon. Former Kodanad inspector Saji Markose, SI T L Jayan, ASI M S Manoj, SCPOs Shiju K Varghese, Vipin Varkey, N P Bindu, P M Lailalya and K C Gibi were part of the investigation team. A Sindhu appeared for the prosecution.

It was a relative of the survivor who was convicted and sentenced by the court.

Man held for child abuse

A 45-year-old man was arrested by Ernakulam Rural police for sexually assaulting a minor girl.

The arrested person has been identified as Raveendran Krishnan of Elanji. The accused was arrested by Muvattupuzha police. A team of officers led by inspector K N Rajesh made the arrest.
