Pedestrian injured in car accident succumbs to injuries

Kochi: A 48-year-old man who sustained serious injuries after a car knocked him down near Kaloor Stadium Link Road succumbed to his injuries late on Monday night.The deceased Pradeep Kumar was walking on the footpath when the car reportedly went out of control, veered off the road and crashed on the footpath at 9.50am on Monday. The victim, who used to work with a private firm in the city, was a resident of Tripunithura. The car hit Pradeep Kumar and then overturned after crashing into a nearby lamp post. He was admitted to a nearby hospital in critical condition with a head injury. The accident happened when Pradeep Kumar, who arrived at work in the morning, stepped outside the establishment. The car driver, a resident of Arangath Cross Road, near Pullepady, later surrendered at Palarivattom police station. According to police, he was arrested and released on station bail. The driver claimed that he lost control of the car and it led to the accident, police said.
