Opposition raises concerns over lack of maintenance at govt schools in Thrikkakara
Kochi: Opposition councillors in Thrikkakara have raised concerns over the alleged inaction of local body officials in carrying out maintenance work in govt schools ahead of reopening. The opposition in the municipality has warned that the lack of timely upkeep poses serious safety risks to students, citing issues such as overgrown premises and the reported presence of snakes within school compounds. There are three govt schools under the municipality's jurisdiction. On Monday, a group of opposition councillors visited MAAM LP School in Kakkanad, where snakes were reportedly spotted. The councillors, along with residents, sealed holes in the compound walls with cement to prevent reptiles from entering the premises. Later, a protest held in front of the municipal chairman's office was inaugurated by opposition leader C P Sajal. "With merely a few weeks left for the reopening of the schools, the municipality has failed to ensure safety of students. We have sought the authorities to immediately conduct the maintenance work and issue fitness certificates," said Sajal.
