KOCHI:

Uthara

, daughter of

Meena Menon

, the owner of

Shantivanam sacred grove

, has written an open letter to education minister

C Raveendranath

urging him to take up the issue of habitat destruction on account of the action by theKSEB to erect a tower on the premises to draw a 110KV line.

Stating that she is a student of a government school, Uthara said her mother was of the firm belief that there was no other syllabus that tries to create environmental awareness like the Kerala state school syllabus and that was the reason why she was enrolled there.

“But even as the education that I am given has so much focus on environment conservation, what I see around me is totally against this,” wrote Uthara. “The day I returned home after exams the KSEB used a JCB to demolish the compound wall and destroy the undergrowth in the sacred grove and also gave a list of 48 trees to be chopped off to my mother, the letter said.
