KOCHI: Days after receiving a terror threat on WhatsApp, the
Kochi city
police have received a similar threat in the form of an
international call
from an unknown number on Sunday. The caller reportedly told police that 'Base Movement', claimed to be south Indian unit of al-Qaida, would target important places in all the districts in the state.
Sources with Kochi city police said that they are yet to identify the number from which the call had come. They said that it had come from a Gulf country. Kochi city police have registered a case and started a probe into the incident.
"We have registered a case in connection with the call, identity of the sender is yet to be ascertained," said a source.
On November 1, hours after the low intensity blast on the premises of the Malappuram collectorate, Kochi city police had received a
WhatsApp message from 'Base Movement', threatening to target strategically important places and persons.
According to police, the threat call and WhatsApp message had come from two different numbers.
Meanwhile a senior police officer said that the threat call had come from Qatar and the caller has been identified as a native of Kasaragod. The officer hinted that threat call could be a hoax.
The WhatsApp message had said that central government institutions, central schools, prominent personalities and defence units would be attacked. The message also contained names of the persons 'blacklisted' by the Kerala unit of the terror outfit. The case is currently being investigated by an
