Kochi: Maximum temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius were recorded in the state on Tuesday. Palakkad saw mercury levels at 36.9°C, while Punalur, Cial Kochi, Kannur airport and Kottayam saw daytime temperatures cross 35°C. Relative humidity (RH) levels rose in the state, with Punalur recording the highest at 85%, while Palakkad and Kottayam saw RH of 89% and 86%. Minimum temperature rose appreciably in Kozhikode district. It was above normal in Kannur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur districts. Punalur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 21.5°C.

IMD said that a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning was very likely to occur at a few places on Wednesday. The low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining areas of the south Bay of Bengal persists over the same region. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 3.1km above mean sea level. It is very likely to continue to move eastwards and weaken gradually by Wednesday. The upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea off the south Kerala coast persists. The trough from south interior Karnataka to Marathwada also persists.According to 24-hour rainfall recorded on Tuesday morning, Neryamangalam received 5 cm, while Venkurinji received 4cm rain.
