Man killed by friend during drunken brawl in Idukki

Idukki: A 33-year-old man was killed by his friend following a drunken brawl at Irattayar near Kattappana, Idukki, on Saturday night.The deceased has been identified as Rahul Sunny of Irattayar Vayalunkal. Kattappana police have arrested his friend, Sajayan Ramachandran (33) of Valloppullil, Old Panchayat area.Around 11pm, Sunny and Ramachandran together consumed alcohol near a building in front of the old panchayat office. They got into an argument, which led to a brawl. Ramachandran allegedly dragged Sunny onto the road and brutally assaulted him.Residents, who witnessed the assault, alerted the police. Sunny, who was found unconscious on the road, was rushed to a private hospital in Kattappana, but his life could not be saved.Police said Ramachandran stated that he committed the crime under the influence of alcohol. Police questioned him in detail and collected evidence at the crime scene in his presence. A forensic team also examined the crime spot.Police said the exact cause of death would be known only when the post-mortem examination result is out.
