Kochi: Fire and rescue personnel on Tuesday afternoon rescued a man who got trapped in a 30-feet deep well at his house premises. P K Rejikumar of Pulayamthuruth, Kuttamassery, in Aluva had climbed down the well to perform routine maintenance and cleaning.
The well contained approximately five feet of water and Rejikumar spent considerable time removing accumulated mud and debris. He was being assisted from above by his wife and children.
After completing the task, Rejikumar attempted to climb back with the help of a rope. However, due to exertion, he was unable to climb back.
Realising the gravity of the situation, his family immediately contacted Aluva fire station. A rescue team arrived on the scene around 4.30pm.
Fireman M Sajad descended into the narrow shaft to reach the man. Using specialised rescue equipment, Sajad secured Rejikumar inside a safety net. The team above then carefully hoisted Rejikumar and he was brought to safety without sustaining serious injuries.
