Thodupuzha: A man was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for the rape of a minor girl in 2021.
Delivering the judgment, Thodupuzha first additional sessions court judge Ash K Bal said that if the fine is not paid, an additional year of imprisonment will be imposed. The 93 days the accused already spent in custody will be deducted from the sentence.
The court ordered that Rs 3 lakh be given to the girl under the state victim compensation scheme. The district legal services authority was instructed to ensure appropriate compensation based on the girl's social and economic condition. Pious Mathew was the special prosecutor in this case.
It is alleged that Anas (31) from Kodayathur, an employee at the commercial establishment where the minor girl worked for daily wages, assaulted her on April 21, 2021.
The prosecution presented 26 witnesses and submitted 41 documents. In the case registered by the Thodupuzha police, inspectors V C Vishnukumar, Shivakumar and Sumesh Sudhakaran carried out the investigation and filed the chargesheet.
