LDF should continue for Kerala’s progress: Karat
Kochi: CPM politburo member and former general secretary Prakash Karat stated that the LDF govt should continue to effectively resist the hostile interventions of the Union govt and lead Kerala towards further development. Speaking at a ‘meet the leader' programme in Kochi on Thursday, Karat said that there were no communal riots in Kerala in the past decade. At the same time, in Karnataka, governed by the Congress, there were 70 communal riots in the last two years, according to statistics presented by the Karnataka home minister in the legislative assembly, Karat said. Despite Congress claiming to be a secular party, they compromise with communalism wherever they are in power, he said. The ongoing impact of the Middle East conflict will further affect the lives of ordinary people in the coming days, Karat said. "In such a situation, only the LDF govt will be able to effectively address it. Beyond the LPG shortage, inflation and rising prices will severely impact the economy. It is anticipated that the consequences will persist long after the war ends. The LDF govt effectively managed similar situations during crises, including Covid-19, by strengthening public distribution and making additional interventions during critical times to protect the common people," Karat said. The Union govt's neglect and hostile interventions towards Kerala will continue, Karat said. "LDF govts have a history of strongly resisting such interventions. Kerala was the first to legally challenge the central govt's wrong moves. Kerala has filed the most such petitions in the Supreme Court," he said. The 12 years of Modi's rule have led to communal polarisation across the country. Attacks on religious minorities have become a daily occurrence, Karat said. However, Kerala has remained different from this over the past 10 years, he added.
