KOTTAYAM: In a video that surfaced on Wednesday, Congress veteran P J Kurien asserted that UDF would assume power after winning the upcoming assembly elections and backed former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala to the chief minister post.
Former Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Kurien made the statement at the election convention of Varghese Mammen, UDF candidate in Thiruvalla, on Monday. Mammen is from Kerala Congress (Joseph).
Kurien said that Congress would win the polls and perhaps Chennithala would become the chief minister. Chennithala was also present on the dais during the convention.
Later, Chennithala sought to temper the excitement and said that such discussions were too premature. The party should focus on winning the elections and forming the govt, he said. Congress high command will decide about the chief ministerial candidate, Chennithala added.
