Kolkata hostel death: Schoolteachers remember Juven Joss Jebin

Kochi: A day after he died after falling from the sixth floor of a hostel building near Kolkata, teachers at Rajagiri Public School remembered their former student, 19-year-old Juven Joss Jebin. Teachers described Jebin as a gifted orator, a class leader and someone well-versed in current affairs, with a strong commitment to pursuing a career in law. The student was reportedly found lying on the ground with injuries by fellow hostel residents at West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) in Salt Lake. He was taken to Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital, where he was declared dead. Speaking to TOI, Bini Varghese, a computer science teacher who shared a close bond with Jebin, said she was shocked and saddened by the news. She recalled that he was always at the forefront of school activities. "There is nothing I could say was lacking in him. He was extremely bright. In my subject, he scored 100% marks in the board exams and was fully committed to studying law. He was determined to get into a national law college on his first attempt," said Varghese. The teacher described Jebin as a natural orator with a positive outlook on life. "He was someone who gave strength to others. A person like that would never take such a step," she said. "He was one of the best students of the school, the teaching community at the school is saddened by his passing," said Rajagiri Public School director Rev Fr Paulose Kidangan. A person close to the family said the postmortem was completed on Tuesday and that the body is likely to be brought to Kochi by air by Wednesday morning and later be taken to his home in Palarivattom. His funeral will be held later in on Wednesday.
