Kochi Airport closes arrival operations amid heavy rains

KOCHI: As a measure of precaution, the Cochin International Airport Limited (Cial) has stopped its arrival operation from 1.10pm on Thursday.The move comes after the third shutter of the Idukki dam has been raised 50 cm at 12.30 pm on Thursday as part of the trial run for opening the Idukki dam.ALSO READ: CM Pinarayi Vijayan holds high-level meet over Idukki dam as water level crosses 2398.80 ftOne of the highest arch dams in Asia, the Idukki dam was completely opened 26 years ago in 1992.ALSO READ: Kerala: 547 relief camps have been set up at ErnakulamNedumbassery is one of the locations in Ernakulam, which could be affected once the waters from Edamalayar and Idukki dams reach Ernakulam.Chengal canal near Airport has been overflowing after the heavy rains and the dam opening on Thursday. The drains of the Airport run into the Chengal canal which is linked to the Periyar.
