Kerala youth killed after bike falls into roadside culvert pit in Thodupuzha

Thodupuzha: A youth was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle and fell into a roadside pit dug to construct a culvert near Thodupuzha, Idukki, on Monday night.The deceased was identified as Jeys Benny (27) from Muthalakkodam. The accident occurred around 11pm when Benny was on his way to Thodupuzha. Benny sustained serious injuries and though locals rushed him to a private hospital in Muthalakkodam, his life could not be saved.Benny, who had been working in Malta, was scheduled to return on Wednesday. He is survived by his mother Bindu and sister Anna.His body was handed over to family after a postmortem examination at Thodupuzha district hospital. The funeral will be held later.Following the incident, various political organisations took out a protest march to the PWD office in Thodupuzha, alleging negligence by authorities while constructing the culvert. PWD officials said that a warning board indicating construction had been installed at the site.Public works department minister Mohamed Riyas ordered a probe into the tragic incident.
