The videos of the incident showed the dog, suspended by a rope from the bridge, desperately wriggling to escape. Its carcass was later seen floating in the water.
The disturbing videos, apparently recorded on November 8, angered the animal lovers, who demanded stringent action against the culprits.
Sally Varma, outreach coordinator, Humane Society International/India, lodged a complaint with the state police chief, Alappuzha district police chief and Ramankary police.
"The videos show an extreme act of cruelty, killing a dog by hanging it from the bridge opposite Kidangara Thottunkal bridge. This gruesome act was recorded by children present on the bridge. The perpetrator is not seen in the video,” Varma said,

She further said it has been established scientifically that those indulging in such cruelty are more likely to commit crimes against children, women and other vulnerable sections of the society.
Anju Lekshami S, a psychologist, said those with anti-social mindset or psychopathic personality disorders indulged in such zoosadism. "There may be a chance that such people may control and intimidate women or children to keep them silent about domestic abuse,” she said.
