Kerala: MACT awards Rs 1.65 crore solatium to soldier's kin

The Ottapalam motor accident claim tribunal (MACT) has awarded a compensation of Rs 1.65 crore to the family of a soldier who died in a road accident. This is the second highest compensation given by the agency so far. The compensation has been awarded to the kin of Subedar T Madhu Mohan, 45, of Bindu Bhavan, Vaniyamkulam, who died in the accident occurred near the private hospital at Kothakurissi Road in Vaniyamkulam on April 3, 2019.

PALAKKAD: The Ottapalam motor accident claim tribunal (MACT) has awarded a compensation of Rs 1.65 crore to the family of a soldier who died in a road accident. The MACT judge, P Saidalavi, also awarded a compensation of Rs 75,000 to Mohan's son Adith, 13, who suffered injuries in the accident.
The father and son were travelling in a bike and they were hit by a car from behind. Mohan came on leave to join his family and met with the accident two days before his date of return. He had three more years of service in the Army. The MACT awarded a compensation of Rs 1,32,39,356 and the interest from the date of filing of the case and the court expenses. Thus the total amount rose to Rs 1,65,18,223, said advocate K P Mohankumar, who appeared for the soldier and family.
The compensation will go the dependents of the soldier - his mother, father, wife and two children. The compensation has to be paid by the insurance company, the tribunal said. Adith will get a compensation of Rs 76,654, including the interest and court expenses.
The highest compensation awarded by the MACT, Ottapalam, was Rs 1.47 crore, plus interest and court expenses to the family of assistant professor Naveen Kumar, 38, of Palakkad Government Medical College in 2020.
