Hurt in firecracker explosion, man passes away in Alappuzha

Kottayam: A man who was undergoing treatment after being severely injured in a firecracker explosion at a temple compound in Alappuzha succumbed to injuries. The deceased was identified as Alappuzha native Ravindran, 62. Based on a complaint filed by his relatives, Alappuzha North police have registered a case against the officials of Kalappura Ghantakarna Temple.The incident occurred on April 3. Ravindran had come for some work at the temple along with another person. They were assigned to clean the temple's storeroom. Ravindran collected waste and debris from the storeroom and placed it in a pit within the temple premises. As soon as he placed the waste in the pit, an explosion took place causing severe injuries to his face. The pit where the debris was deposited reportedly contained firecrackers.Ravindran was initially taken to the medical college hospital (MCH) in Vandanam after which he was taken to Kottayam MCH. He passed away on Wednesday night while undergoing treatment.The FIR indicates that the firecrackers were carelessly placed in the pit without proper safety measures. MSID:: 130309315 413 |
