KOCHI: The
Kerala high court
on Friday disposed a petition alleging move to appoint non-Hindus as commissioners of devaswom boards of
Travancore
and Cochin.
A division bench comprising justices P R Ramachandra Menon and Devan Ramachandran disposed a petition filed by BJP state president PS Sreedharan Pillai after the state government informed that only Hindus can be elected as members of both Travancore and Cochin devaswom boards even as per the provisions of the amended
Travancore-Cochin
Hindu Religious Institutions (Amendment) Act, 2018.
An affidavit filed by the government through senior government pleader V Manu stated that the electorate of the members of the devaswom boards consists of Hindus among the council of ministers and MLAs. The allegation that a non-Hindu can become a devaswom commissioner is totally a misplaced apprehension, the affidavit had stated.
