Girl receives prosthetic limb after losing right hand to alleged medical negligence in Kerala
Kochi: Vinodhini, a 9-year-old girl from Pallassana, Palakkad who lost her right hand to alleged medical negligence, received a prosthetic limb at a private clinic in Ernakulam on Sunday. The limb was fitted with financial assistance from opposition leader V D Satheesan. The girl's family visited the facility weeks ago to give measurements for the artificial limb. The family had moved from pillar to post to prevent amputation, but in vain. The prosthetic limb revived their hopes. "The prosthetic limb can function electrically. We need to charge it for four hours for two days. It functions with my daughter's muscle power and there are two switches for the movements of the limb. She received the opposition leader by extending the prosthetic limb," said her father Vinod D. The family will return to Pallassana in two days. Vinodhini, a fourth standard student, fell while playing in the compound of her house and suffered a fracture in her right hand. The parents took her to Palakkad district hospital for treatment. However, the alleged medical negligence resulted in her right hand being amputated.
